The cats in hats that need a home: Woman photographs orphaned kittens wearing funny accessories in the hopes of finding someone to adopt them
- Shaina Fishman, from New York, teamed up with a stylist on the project
- The 33-year-old took the photos while Ryen Blaschke designed the hats
While dog rescue is a hot issue in the US right now, not as much attention is being paid to the 3.4 million homeless cats that enter animal shelters every year.
In an effort to raise awareness about the felines in need of homes, New York-based commercial photographer Shaina Fishman, 33, and wardrobe stylist Ryen Blaschke joined forces for an adorable photo which sees kittens donning an array of intricate hats in hopes that prospective owners will fall in love enough to adopt a new furry friend.
'We wanted to create a lighthearted series featuring rescue cats and kittens that are up for adoption,' writes Shaina on BoredPanda.

Cute kitty: Shaina Fishman, a commercial photographer specializing in animals, teamed up with stylist Ryen Blaschke to raise awareness for cat rescue with a series of portraits of cats in hats

Maleficent feline: While Ryen handmade the customized hats for the shoot, Shaina photographed the rescued cats from Brooklyn Animal Action, who are being fostered by volunteers
'Customized hats were handmade by Ryen and then shot by me on rescued cats from Brooklyn Animal Action, in the homes of volunteer’s fostering the cats,' she adds.
One of the kittens is seen rocking a hat similar to the vintage Vivienne Westwood number that Pharrell Williams wore to the 2014 Grammys.
Some of the other cats don shaggy wigs, while one sports a green Robin Hood-esqe hat.

Good point: 'All cats deserve a loving home and a ridiculous Halloween costume,' Shaina explained

Kitty culture: The cats are pictured wearing tiny versions of popular hats such, including this replica of the hat Pharrell wore at the Grammys in 2014
Both Shaina and Ryen are animal advocates who are actively involved in rescue and volunteering.
Some of the hats are Halloween-inspired, including a Harry Potter scary and black-trimmed circular glasses.
Another little fellow wears a mask that makes him look like a minion from the popular Despicable Me movies.

Sophisticated pet: Glasses and a scarf make this white and black cat look dapper

Getting wiggy with it: This adorable cat can't see underneath the fringe of its tiny wig
Shaina and Ryen hope that their sweet photos will inspire people to adopt the cats, who are currently being housed by foster parents.
Recently, New York-based photographer Sophie Gammand dressed rescue pitbulls up in elaborate flower crowns in an effort to reveal their softer side and get them adopted.
'I wish for this series to challenge the way we look at pit bulls, and ultimately the way we treat them,' she said of her project.
